Character: Princess Bonnibel Bubblegum
Fandom: Adventure Time
Personality: At first glance, Bonnibel is like a stereotypical princess – pink even down to her hair and skin – waiting for the help of her hero, Finn the Human Boy and his companion Jake the Dog. As Princess of the Candy Kingdom and one of the most human-like princesses, she is frequently dogged by the efforts of the delusional Ice King to make her his wife along with the various other princesses of the Land of Ooo. Certainly, Finn has saved her a number of times. But beyond that, she has her own active role as a political figure, a scientist, and (biologically) a teenager.
Bonnibel is quite a social political figure, often leading to her involvement and sponsorship in a variety of political and social events in Ooo, including a science barbeque, the Annual Wizard Battle, Annual Back-Rubbing Ceremony, and so on, but what comes first is her responsibility to her people. Visiting around her kingdom periodically, her sheer presence can make most candy people feel better about their lives as she knows just how much affection they need. However, in her personal life she can also be quite casual too, casting off her princessly wardrobe and wearing more casual clothes like hoodies and t-shirts. On occasions she’ll even make it off on her own away from the castle, such as on holidays, when her responsibilities are already taken care of.
Although in the D&D-style alignment system of her world she would certainly fall into a “Good” alignment like her hero Finn, Princess Bubblegum has quite a temper when riled up, leading her to sometimes make rash actions (and flip tables). At her best she’s sweet, generous, and deeply caring; at her worst, furious, irrational, and callous. Her kingdom, though largely populated by sweet, loving candy people that love their leader is also home to a few bad apples necessitating the need for a comprehensive out-of-sight dungeon behind the saccharine surface. Dangerous elements are best locked up, locked away, after all. However, her anger can also lead to tensions with other Ooo royal figures, such as at the Duke of Nuts (who, due to a pudding deficiency, repeatedly eats all of her pudding stores), as well as at her friends when they go over the line. Usually, however, she is skilled at diplomacy, often able to settle issues with patience and hard work and a good bit of thinking. When her kingdom is threatened too, she’ll take measures into her own hands, going so far as to fight and cause pain with her own hands if it’ll save her people. At times she can even be callous towards other’s feelings, such as when Finn’s unrequited crush on her simply grew to bother her as well as laughing at a candy person’s desire to be a princess someday. Furthermore, Bonnibel is not above lying, doing it at several points to promote the better good, especially when the truth might cause such issues as her people exploding from fright, though also at other times such as to prevent Finn & Jake from partaking in important tarts used in the annual Back-Rubbing Ceremony at the Royal Congress of Ooo.
Bonnibel’s relationship with science is a key element to her character, something she is not shy about sharing, whether through her exclamations or occasional dress in lab coat and glasses. With science at her side, she feels quite confident in her daily life. Science and the old technology from the pre-apocalyptic world serve as her tools to better the lives of her people, but even beyond that she has a passion for them that outweighs their danger. That’s not to say that her science is naturally dangerous as much as occasionally disastrous when those around her come into play, showing her confidence in science and a little carelessness. The Candy Kingdom has been the victim of two zombie plagues due to one of her attempts to bring back the dead, as well as nearly falling to a couple of her creations, the Earls of Lemongrab and Goliad, when her carelessness has left that science outside of her careful management. As such she could be understood as a bit of a mad scientist at times, particularly since she has no moral qualms against raising the dead or producing paralysis potions and openly wishes she could live forever if the technology existed. However, usually her technology and science serves to support the greater good of the Candy Kingdom and Ooo as a whole.

Timeline:
Abilities:
Bonnibel has a mastery of science especially focused around candy, the pinnacle of which is the creation of sentient life. As a candy person herself (a mutant made of a mixture of human DNA and bubblegum), she can restore lost biomass by using other candy biomass, including sugar. Furthermore, with the proper equipment and materials she is also able to biologically engineer candy people as seen in the case of Lemongrab, Goliad, and Stormo, as well as in some cases engineering organ replacements for former humans such as the Ice King. This may extend to regular humans as well as other non-candy people.
Other technological applications of her intellect vary greatly between things such as liquid pyrotechnics to electroguns to aura visualizers to anti-gravity tote chambers. She’s also easily able to play BMO (a sentient computer) as a chiptune musical instrument by taking its faceplate off and tinkering with its boards.
